Signal is an encrypted communications application for Android and iOS. It uses the Internet to send one-to-one and group messages, which can include files, voice notes, images and videos, and make one-to-one voice and video calls. Signal uses standard cellular mobile numbers as identifiers, and uses end-to-end encryption to secure all communications to other Signal users.

@mer__edith @signalapp @Wikipedia I think this is worth using the app position to notify users about. Maybe not the gentlest behavior (precisely why I brought up the SOPA blackouts) but in times like this might be worthy. I am sure less than 20% of Signal's EU audience is aware of these "processes"

@lummelum2 @signalapp @mer__edith @Wikipedia I kinda think drawing public spotlight to this can work. It does have risks, this strategy, but everything smaller is very likely to be ignored. The people trying to pull this off count on people not knowing less than on people not caring.

@signalapp What's the point of having encryption when Signal conversations can be obtained via FOIA? Shouldn't you address this?
