Signal is an encrypted communications application for Android and iOS. It uses the Internet to send one-to-one and group messages, which can include files, voice notes, images and videos, and make one-to-one voice and video calls. Signal uses standard cellular mobile numbers as identifiers, and uses end-to-end encryption to secure all communications to other Signal users.

I’m proud of the number of gmail and outlook users we were able to convert.The fact is that none of the privacy apps today outside of @signalapp and @apple has brought privacy to the mainstream.

@GarrittyOf @matthew_d_green Maybe the @signalapp model? Raw Trust On First Use (TOFU) like SSH but at scale + client-side warning "the digital signature changed" + enough eyeballs to catch it. That model de-centralizes trust away from the shady certificate businesses to everybody.

@ZanguiloP @signalapp I think it’s a great idea. It would be so helpful to have a pin feature for important messages.
@ahrkrak @signalapp The trick is to hold onto the phone for a week while you transfer things over. Once you relinquish the phone you’re now in hard mode to migrate.
@ahrkrak @signalapp Oh if this is just a reset device… that’s hard! No idea how well backups work.
