2/ No surprise legislators & officials secretly love encrypted messaging on @signalapp & @WhatsApp. They know from history and experience that if eavesdropping on their political conversations is technically feasible... there's a real chance it may happen.

@jsrailton @signalapp My reply to these bills is always the same. Every politician must put these backdoors on their devices (official and personal) and their families for one year - no exceptions - and *then* the rest of the population will do it. Interestingly, none seem too keen on doing that.

OPEN SECRET: the same legislators & officials calling on companies to weaken encryption... ...are avid @signalapp users. So are the staffers that write their bills. Because, despite what they say, they can't do their jobs without the privacy protections of strong encryption.
